Training seminar with Scott Johnston

Next month Scott Johnston, the MOD Squad coach, will be offering a series of training discussions and lectures on how to best prepare yourself for success in endurance sports. This is a great opportunity to learn from the man who has us and many other athletes reach our potential.

Plus, all proceeds will go to helping us fund our race season, so it's a benefit for everyone!

Successful Training for Endurance Sports
with SCOTT JOHNSTON

Be fitter, race faster, feel stronger, recover better and avoid injury

Join Scott for 5 weekly sessions to learn why world class endurance athletes train the way
they do and how your own training can be much more effective.  Starting June 3, each
Monday 5-6:30pm at Winthrop Physical Therapy.  Cost is $50, with all proceeds going to
Methow Olympic Development.  Free to anyone under 18.

Here’s what we’ll cover:

1. What is endurance, and how to successfully train it

2. Basic exercise physiology:  How to get the results you want, and why.  How age
makes a difference.  What “aerobic base” is and why it’s important.

3. Intensity:  How to optimize your training.  Is harder better?  Is easier better?  How
intervals fit into an intelligent plan; some common mistakes of high intensity training.

4. Periodization:  Structuring your training over the year(s) for different goals.

5. Strength training:  How strength fits into an endurance program.  Which exercises are
more effective for your sport?

6. Customizing your own training plan around sound and well tested training principles.

Scott has had a lifetime of personal top level athletic pursuits.  He has coached cross-
country skiers to 11 individual national championships and 18 individual national
championship top 5 finishes and is the coach of the reigning U.S. Birkebeiner Ski Race
champion.
